MAIN COLLECTION
The MBC is home to an extensive collection of more than 85,000 hours of radio and television broadcasts. This collection, which spans nearly a century of broadcasting history, covers a wide variety of programming genres, including Comedies, Dramas, Music/Variety specials, Game/Reality shows, Talk shows, Children’s shows, and News and Sports broadcasts. Additionally, the MBC boasts a remarkable archive of over 8,000 commercials and 3,800 documentaries, including the complete run of PBS's Frontline series.
SPECIAL COLLECTIONS
The Museum of Broadcast Communications maintains a robust Civil Rights collection, comprising over 450 documentaries, talk shows, and news specials. This collection was digitized with funding from the Oprah Winfrey Foundation. Other major collections include the Military History collection, funded by the Tawani Foundation, and the Political collection, funded by the Brinson Foundation.
ARTIFACTS AND PHOTOS
In addition to its primary radio and television collections, the Museum of Broadcast Communications house nearly 4,000 photographs and almost 2,000 artifacts. This includes photos and biographies of Radio Hall of Fame inductees. The artifact collection features both paper-based materials such as program guides, scripts, and marketing materials, as well as physical objects like props, costumes, and promotional items.
