DOCENT VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY

The Museum of Broadcast Communications is seeking enthusiastic volunteer docents to welcome and guide visitors, interpret exhibitions, and support the Museum’s mission of education, preservation, and public service.

Key Responsibilities

●      Provide warm greetings to visitors and offer wayfinding throughout the Museum.

●      Lead tours and facilitate informal discussions with school groups, families, and adult visitors.

●      Interpret exhibitions and artifacts in an engaging, accurate, and age-appropriate manner.

●      Assist with educational programs, special events, and hands-on activities as needed.

●      Share the Museum’s mission and encourage repeat visits, memberships, and community engagement.

●      Help monitor gallery spaces to ensure a safe and respectful environment.

●      Attend scheduled training sessions and periodic volunteer meetings to stay up-to-date on exhibitions and interpretive techniques.

Qualifications

●      Enthusiastic about public engagement and the Museum’s mission of education, preservation, and service.

●      Enjoys interacting with diverse audiences; strong communication and interpersonal skills.

●      Dependable and punctual; able to commit to a regular volunteer schedule.

●      Comfortable speaking in front of groups of varying sizes and ages.

●      Willingness to learn exhibition content and basic interpretive skills.

●      Prior experience in education, museums, hospitality, or public speaking helpful but not required.
